Illustrators and Jewellers collaborate
From the 28th Feb to 3rd March 2017 with an evening reception from 5-6pm on Tuesday 28th February
The Vittoria Street Gallery will hosts a new collaborative project between Illustration and Jewellery students. This initiative has provided a fantastic opportunity for the two disciplines to meet and share their practise in this pilot partnering of disciplines.HND Jewellery is an industry focussed skills-based course. Illustration is a discipline steeped in drawing, ideas and visual investigation.
The project was based on the ‘The history of the Jewellery Quarter’. Our students took time to draw and investigate this historically rich area, home to the Jewellery Quarter Museum, The Pen Museum and the Coffin Works, alongside many jewellery companies, both new and old.
The students worked collaboratively, with the illustrators providing a design to be sublimated onto flat sheet aluminium and the jewellery students producing a product to incorporate this design.
The process of sublimation facilitates the transfer of visuals onto a flat or 3D surface of suitably prepared material from a heated film, the illustrators artwork was reproduced through this process. To find out more about our these course visit Jewellery and Silversmithing and Illustration
