Audience

It was felt that the primary audience for programme documentation was the Approval Panel. Although there was an understanding that programme documentation had a number of audiences (in theory), the crucial nature of satisfying the approval panel meant that documentation was written with (almost exclusively) that audience in mind.

This meant that the utility of the documentation for other stakeholders was thought to be lower than it might be. There was a sense that programme documentation was ‘for the University’ rather than for the course team, students or employers.

Additionally, some doubt was raised as to whether the Approval Panel actually offers scrutiny of the ‘right things’ or offers an opportunity for discussion of things of interest and importance to the programme team.
