Graduate Fashion Week New Media Award Winner

From Sunday 4 – Wednesday 7 June the Graduate Fashion Week awards took place in Shoreditch, London. Following the outstanding success of alumni Charnice Blaize last year, we are proud to announce BA (Hons) Fashion Business and Promotion Graduate Rebecca Howland won the Graduate Fashion Week New Fashion Media Award.
I was so shocked but excited to have won the Graduate Fashion Week Award. From the start of the process and when the course leader Alison nominated me, I am so proud to have won. It all seems such a blur, and I felt so nervous going up to accept the award, but I’m so happy to have this on my CV.’

Fashion digital media is a dynamic and flourishing part of the fashion industry with new media constantly evolving alongside traditional formats. GFW wanted to find and celebrate the voice of a new generation and they found the winner in our recent Fashion Business and Promotions graduate Rebecca!
The judges were looking for creativity, original thinking and relevance to the market, a project that resonated with the industry through excellent visuals and written content.
Rebecca focused her project on creating a support network to young models through an app as she identified there was an overwhelming lack of support within the industry.
The app worked as a social media platform where the modelling community could interact with each other and post recommendations. There was GPS location which flagging if the model was in an unfamiliar place and enabled the model to report any issues with colleagues or clients.

The app also had a personal log in which meant all the models’ information on bookings would be synced to the application meaning they would get a notification through as soon as a booking had been made. This would include information on the location, job and photographer and also an option to meet with a coach if they would like 1 to 1 support before castings.
When opening the coaching map, it would also display locally healthy restaurants and takeaways. Stepping out of the digital world the app also offered monthly live talks with industry professionals.
