Last week the Conservatoire Library received a donation of rare materials, in the form of notebooks dating from 1939, belonging to Dr Walter Bergmann. The donation was made by Alma Spriggs, whose late husband was a friend of Dr Bergmann.
Walter Bergmann was an early music research pioneer, notable for his work with Schott’s music publishers. He became a director of the Society of Recorder Players and founded the Recorder in Education Summer Schools. Many of Bergmann’s compositions and editions can be found in the Conservatoire Library, freely available to borrow and play.
